Terry Williams's Stay of Execution

The National Clearinghouse for the Defense of Battered Women (NCDBW) supports efforts to stop the execution of Terry Williams, a victim of sexual of abuse. Terry Williams was scheduled to be executed on October 3, 2012 in Pennsylvania. Like many of the defendants we assist, Terry Williams's jury never heard evidence about his experiences of abuse, including abuse by the decedent. To learn more about Terry Williams's case, go to his website.

On September 28, 2012, Terry Williams's death sentence was vacated by Philadelphia Judge Teresa M. Sarmina. She also ordered a new sentencing hearing. The Philadelphia District Attorney's office immediately appealed those decisions. The National Clearinghouse believes that the right and just thing would be for the DA to accept Judge Sarmina's decision and to stop any and all wasteful appeals immediately.

On April 3, 1991, the National Clearinghouse for the Defense of Battered Women's (NCDBW) Board of Directors took an organizational position opposing capital punishment under all circumstances. Click here to see NCDBW's position.
